Sebastian Haffner was born in Berlin in 1907 and studied law. In 1938 he emigrated to England and became a journalist on the Observer. In 1954 he returned to Germany and contributed to all the major newspapers. He is the author of many historical bestsellers, including those on Churchill, Hitler, Prussia and Germany from Bismarck to Hitler. Sebastian Haffner died in 1999.
