The new edition of the classic book for children by Waldemar Bonsels, with the original illustrations by Waltraud and Ottmar Frick. The adventures of the famous bee are exciting and entertaining and have held millions of children in their spell – all over the world and for 95 years. The classic original of this internationally successful children's book is now again being published in colour.

The writer tells the story of the inquisitive bee Maya who leaves her community in search of adventure. She makes all sorts of new friends in her newly won freedom – beetles, centipedes and dragonflies – but at the same time she also ends up in all manner of dangerous predicaments. After her escape from the clutches of a spider, she is taken prisoner by hornets, and she hears them planning the destruction of the bee colony. With the help of an officer hornet, she manages to get away and is able to warn the bees of the impending danger. The hornet attack is successfully warded off and Maya, the runaway, is taken back into the community.
