Joachim Ehlers, born in 1936, was a Professor for Mediaeval History in Frankfurt am Main and Brunswick and at the Friedrich Meinecke Institute at the Free University in Berlin. He has published numerous books and articles on European society and history in the early and High Middle Ages.
