A touching story taking us to a Russia in which time seems to have stood still
The Russian village of Lipovka, named after the lime trees growing everywhere here, can only be reached by water – on a boat trip through the woods. Cut off from the rest of world, Maja and the peasants she lives with here lead a simple life, in the company of the wild dog Wanja. In wonderful pictures and stories, she tells of a life in a world in which time seems to have stood still, in which humans and animals appear to help each other to survive.
Gradually, they are joined by ever more dogs. Wanja is the leader of the pack – and Maja observes them and begins increasingly to understand them. In the process, the "nature of dogs" is given a very different and new definition.
A riveting book that makes tangible the simplicity and naturalness of another environment.
“Nowak authentically tells of loves, loss, sadness, and wonderful encounters with the old babushkas of the village.”
